Abbey Thoroughbreds is owned by Jason Gleeson and Melanie Cranfield. After spelling their own racehorses and broodmares on a neighbouring property for many years, the owners purchased an adjoining property in 2010, knowing that the high quality land and location was extremely suited to breeding and spelling race horses. Extensive capital investment has occurred since acquisition, allowing the owners to now offer this high quality facility to a small number of outside clients.
The property also adjoins a family owned Stable Complex that was purpose built in 2003 to house the racing stables of Stephen Gleeson. This training complex includes a large stable barn, a horse walking machine, day yards and access to horse swimming facilities and Muswellbrook racecourse. This perfectly complements the Abbey Thoroughbreds spelling and breeding facility, and allows the scope of service to extend to pre-training and any rehabilitation and injury management needs that your horse may require.
Jason and Melanie are supported in the running of Abbey Thoroughbreds by the Gleeson family who have been involved in the thoroughbred industry in the Hunter Valley for 3 generations, beginning with Roger Gleeson who trained racehorses such as Glimpse-O-Gold (Newcastle Cup 1972), and current day trainers Jim Gleeson and Stephen Gleeson.
This guarantees that your horses will not only reside in high quality facilities, but will only be handled by experienced horse people.
