Spelling for Thoroughbred Racehorses
Abbey Thoroughbreds specialises in providing short and long term agistment for thoroughbred racehorses including colts.
Spelling packages are based on a standard feeding option using Abbey Feed Mix and high quality lucerne hay.
Abbey’s blended Feed Mix is a combination of a high protein non-oat grain mixture including Faba Beans and Sunflower, mixed with barley, molasses and lucerne chaff.
Abbey Feed Mix is supplemented by high grade Lucerne Hay and regular rotation of pastures which are all located on rich alluvial river flats previously used for lucerne growing.
Agistment for Broodmares / Foals
Abbey Thoroughbreds offers agistment for dry and wet mares, and mares with foals at foot.
This includes ‘walk-on’ services for mares to all studs in the Hunter Valley, including organising veterinary work and suitable horse transport when required.
Abbey Thoroughbreds can also provide foaling down services for resident mares.
Handling / Weaning
Abbey Thoroughbred’s experienced staff can provide handling services for foals and weanlings.
We can also arrange all branding and micro chipping services that are required for Australian Stud Book Identification and Registration purposes.
Sale Preparation of Weanlings and Yearlings
Abbey Thoroughbreds is able to provide a sale preparation package for weanling and yearling sales. Abbey Thoroughbreds sale preparation utilises the high quality stabling and training facilities that adjoin the Abbey Thoroughbreds spelling property.
Pre-Training
Abbey Thoroughbreds can provide pre-training services for your racehorse. Horses are stabled and trained from Abbey’s adjoining training complex, which is a purpose built stable complex with a fully enclosed modern stable barn featuring large stables, safe day yards and a horse walking machine. The Muswellbrook racetrack and horse swimming facilities are also in close proximity.
